Fan trouble reported during Dorchester and Weymouth derby

Published:

Police have confirmed there were reports of anti-social behaviour during Saturday’s football derby between Dorchester Town and Weymouth.

The two sides renewed their league rivalry for the first time since 2018, with more than 4,000 supporters attending the match at Dorchester’s Avenue Stadium.

Kick-off was delayed by 15 minutes due to the volume of fans arriving at the ground, despite both clubs urging supporters to arrive early.

During the early stages of the match, an incident in the Dorchester end prompted stewards and police to speak with supporters, while a flare was thrown onto the pitch from the Weymouth end.

Dorset Police confirmed that one teenager was issued with a dispersal order, although no arrests were made.

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: “Dorset Police put in place a significant and carefully planned policing operation for the match and we would like to thank the vast majority of supporters who attended and enjoyed the game responsibly.

“There were reported incidents of anti-social behaviour involving groups of supporters before, during and after the match. However, there were no reports of serious disorder, with the visible policing presence helping to prevent any escalation.

“One teenager was issued with a Section 35 dispersal order on the day and no arrests were made.”
