Dorchester Town’s scheduled away fixture against Tiverton Town was postponed after the pitch was deemed unplayable.
The Magpies were set to travel to Devon on Saturday to face bottom-of-the-table Tiverton, but the match was called off following a pitch inspection carried out at 9am. The decision left both players and supporters disappointed.
Dorchester Town FC confirmed the postponement in a statement, explaining that the Southern League fixture had been called off because of a waterlogged surface, with a rearranged date to be confirmed in due course.
Tiverton Town also released a statement, saying that the game at the Slee Blackwell Stadium could not go ahead due to the poor condition of the pitch and that a new date would be announced as soon as possible.
The postponement follows a week of heavy rainfall across the South West, which caused flooding in several areas of Devon and Dorset and left a number of pitches unplayable.
At the time of writing, no new date has been set for the fixture. Dorchester Town remain in the Southern League South relegation zone.
The Magpies’ next scheduled match is a local derby against Weymouth at the Avenue Stadium on Saturday, December 27, with both sides currently battling at the wrong end of the table.
