Olympian Emma Wilson Gains Winter Training Boost from Camber Cycle Works

Published:

Olympic windsurfing star Emma Wilson has received a major lift ahead of her winter training programme thanks to new support from Weymouth independent bike shop Camber Cycle Works.

Wilson, a double Olympic bronze medallist from Paris 2024 and Tokyo 2020, is now officially sponsored by the St Thomas Street retailer. As part of the partnership, the shop has equipped her with a high-performance Merida Reacto road bike to help maintain her fitness during the off-season.

The Christchurch-born athlete, who now lives on Portland and trains at the Weymouth & Portland National Sailing Academy, is also the reigning iQFoil World Champion after securing gold in Aarhus, Denmark earlier this year.

Through the winter, Wilson will be using the Merida Reacto 9000 for conditioning and endurance rides across Dorset, supported by ongoing technical expertise from the Camber Cycle Works team.

Chris Carter, managing director of Merida Bicycles Ltd, said:
“We’re very pleased to support the team at Camber Cycle Works in supplying Emma with her new Reacto. This isn’t Emma’s first Merida—her dad John and I worked in the same building for years, so Merida bikes were a regular sight in the Wilson household. Little did I know she would follow in her mother’s footsteps and become such an inspiring athlete.”

Camber Cycle Works co-owners Simon Spreyer and Will Hale added:
“It’s fantastic to support a local athlete of Emma’s calibre. We’re passionate about helping riders of all levels get the most from their bikes, and it’s inspiring to see local sporting talent succeed both here in Dorset and on the world stage.”

The collaboration underscores the strong ties between Dorset’s sporting community and its independent businesses, blending elite performance with local expertise.

Camber Cycle Works is a locally owned retailer specialising in road, gravel, mountain and e-bikes, offering expert servicing, custom builds, wheel building and e-bike repairs, while supporting numerous local events and cycling clubs.
