Braishfield’s County Cup journey came to an agonising end as they were knocked out 4–3 on penalties by Meon Milton Reserves, following a tightly contested 1–1 draw at the Recreation Ground on Saturday afternoon.

A Bright Start in Difficult Conditions

Despite heavy overnight rain, the pitch was in excellent condition, allowing both sides to play some good football.
Braishfield entered the tie in strong form and made the perfect start when Jamie Nash fired the hosts ahead after 21 minutes.

Buoyed by the opener, the home side enjoyed the better of the first half and could have extended their lead before the interval, but a combination of missed chances and solid defending from the visitors kept the scoreline at 1–0.

Second-Half Pressure

The Portsmouth-based visitors came out stronger after the break and began to gain control of possession.
Braishfield’s defence — led by a determined back line — stood firm for long periods but were finally undone in the 75th minute when a speculative cross-cum-shot from Meon Milton looped into the top corner to level the scores.

Despite the setback, Braishfield finished the game strongly, with Nash striking the post late on in their best chance to reclaim the lead.

Penalty Heartbreak

With no extra time, the match went straight to penalties. Both sides converted confidently early on, but it was Meon Milton Reserves who ultimately held their nerve, winning 4–3 in the shoot-out to secure their place in the next round.

The defeat was a cruel end to a spirited Braishfield performance in front of their home crowd, who had plenty to cheer throughout a closely fought contest.

Back to League Action

Braishfield will look to bounce back quickly as they return to league duty tomorrow afternoon, hosting Nursling & Shirley Reserves at the Recreation Ground.
