Just 115 days before its official Formula 1 entry, Audi has introduced the R26 concept, revealing the brand’s visual identity and livery direction for its 2026 challenger.
Unveiled at an event in Munich, the concept marks a major milestone in Audi’s takeover and rebranding of the Sauber team, completed earlier this year. The full team identity is set to be revealed in January, with the complete race car launch to follow ahead of winter testing in Barcelona in February.
The R26 showcases Audi’s signature motorsport palette—titanium, Audi red and carbon black—reimagined in a bold geometric design. The traditional four rings appear prominently in red, linking the concept to the company’s racing legacy in rallying, Le Mans and Formula E.
“The Audi R26 Concept is a clear statement and a preview of the colour scheme and design of our first Formula 1 race car,” said Audi chief creative officer Massimo Frascella. “Its visual identity follows our new design philosophy, built on four principles: clear, technical, intelligent and emotional. This creates a unified language that will extend across our organization. The Formula 1 project is the pioneer of this new brand identity.”
Current drivers Nico Hülkenberg and Gabriel Bortoleto will continue with the team in 2026, alongside team principal Jonathan Wheatley and former Ferrari boss Mattia Binotto, who oversees Audi’s F1 programme.
Audi also confirmed new partnerships with BP—supporting sustainable fuels—along with Adidas and Revolut. Qatar’s sovereign wealth fund has joined as an investor.
Audi CEO Gernot Döllner framed the F1 entry as a bold step for the brand.
“By entering the pinnacle of motorsport, Audi is making an ambitious statement,” Döllner said. “Formula 1 will accelerate our transformation into a leaner, faster and more innovative company. We’re not joining just to participate—we want to win. We know success takes time, but by 2030, we intend to be fighting for the World Championship.”
